A scrimshaw powder horn.

 

 

 

This carved and scrimshawed powder horn exhibits the classic elements of the Tansel style. Notice the 'whales mouth' transition near the spout end.

Design elements include a wide variety of folk representations, patriotic statements and Masonic symbols.  Circa 1840, this horn is in wonderful original condition.
